Let’s together talk about life in a collective housing!

The next Furusato Huis event is approaching! Below, we provide more details about what you can expect on 28 September 2023 in addition to our previous Blog.

We are thrilled to invite Flor (from Amsterdam), Johan (from Groningen), and Ayumi (from Tokyo, Japan) as our guest speakers. Each is living in different types of collective housing and will share their unique experiences with us.

  • Flor resides in a shared house in Amsterdam. She cohabits with several others and shares many communal spaces like the kitchen, living room, and bathroom.

  • Joan lives in a housing community (‘woongemeenschap’) in Groningen designed for those aged 50 and above. This community, named Ebbingehof, was recently established at the initiative of its residents.

  • Although Ayumi now lives in Amsterdam, she previously resided at the Collective House Kankanmori in Tokyo, Japan. This unique home accommodates 40 adults and 11 children, ranging in age from infants to those in their 80s.

Fascinating, isn’t it? There are so many diverse ways to live. During the event, we'll host a Q&A session, giving you the chance to inquire about their day-to-day lives. If you have questions in advance, please email them to info@furusatohuis.nl. We'll do our best to address as many questions as possible during the event.

Let’s together talk about life in a collective housing!

Furusato Huis aims for a collective living space which pursues the balance between the independence and the sharing for multicultural and multigenerational residents.

"Sharing with others"; what could it mean within the context of collective housing?

What would be collective and individual aspects within Furusato Huis? There are no existing set of rules and we are going to create own conditions in future.

This workshop is an informal first step towards the formation of idea of Furusato Huis.

As most of us haven't experienced living in collective setting, we invite two guest speakers who have lived or lives in collective housing in Japan and the Netherlands. They will share their experiences, and together, we will have an open discussion how we would like to see Furusato Huis.

This event is for anyone interested in the Furusato Huis concept or any other collective housing concept but it is not asked any concrete commitment. Your opinion will be reflected to the direction of the ongoing development of Furusato Huis.

At the next workshop, we will discuss together what is ’the way of living’ of Furusato huis. We start our evening with a workshop of Shinto Ritual Exercise led by Mr Paul de Leeuw. After the workshop, we will discuss in group ‘what do we wish in Furusato Huis to happen?’

Workshop Shinto Ritual Exercise led by Mr Paul de Leeuw

Mr Paul de Leeuw introduced Shinto to Europe more than 40 years ago. He finished his study at the Yamakage Shinto School in Hamamatsu, Japan and he was the first non-Japanese who received the license to perform traditional ceremonies and instructs the practice of Shinto-exercises. You can find more information about Shinto Practice at: http://shinto.nl/practice.htm

  • the practice includes simple movement in harmony with breathing and sitting still.

  • please wear comfortable clothes.

  • it is required to take off the shoes at Dojo

Group Discussion

After the workshop of Shinto Ritual Exercise, we will spend some time for a discussion together. There are many subjects we want to talk about related to Furusato Huis. But this time, we want to exchange the thoughts/opinions about the current and future living style. Have you ever thought about it? What is your ideal living style? Do you have any concerns in your future?
